Why Cast Iron Cookware Grows Popular Amid PFAS Cookware Restrictions?

Share:

Many more U.S. states have passed new regulations restricting intentionally added PFAS in cookware. Minnesota launched one of the first bans set to take effect in 2026, and other states, including Maine, Colorado and Rhode Island, are following suit with upcoming rules.

These regulatory changes are pushing consumers toward uncoated cookware like cast iron, which many people now see as a safer, chemicalfree cooking choice for both home kitchens and restaurants.

Table 1: U.S. State PFAS Cookware Ban Summary (Scheduled Effective Dates)

Rising Popularity of Cast Iron Cookware

Cast iron cookware has become one of the fastest-growing trends in the global kitchenware market. Its long-lasting construction, excellent heat retention and natural chemical-free surface fit well with the “buy-it-for-life” mindset that many consumers now prefer.

Home cooks, chefs and outdoor cooking enthusiasts are increasingly choosing cast iron for everyday cooking, baking, grilling and restaurant use.

Quality Differences in Cast Iron Cookware

Not all cast iron cookware is built equal. High-quality durable cast iron relies on proper sand casting craftsmanship.
Good-grade cast iron features uniform wall thickness, smooth casting surfaces and consistent material density.
